LBTBP (established in 1936) operates a variety of programs, including an Exchange Program (established in 1988), which brings lifeguards from Australia and sends LBTBP personnel there, the Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) Program (established in 1988), a SCUBA Search & Rescue Team (established in 1990), and the Beachwheels Program (established in 1992), which provides beach wheelchairs to people with various permanent or temporary disabilities.
- LBTBP has 23 SCUBA Search & Rescue Team Divers (PADI certified) including 1 Instructor, 1 Divemaster, 3 Advanced Open Water Divers, 17 Open Water Divers, and 1 Rescue Diver.
- LBTBP has 17 IRB operators/crew members (all NJSP-BSC certified), and 4 IRBs/RIBs.
- LBTBP employed 4 lifeguards from Australia and sent 4 American lifeguards to Australia for their summer season 2007/2008.

Ocean Lifeguard Training Course (OLTC)
This four-day course teaches prospective lifeguards rescue techniques, surf awareness and policies from the LBTBP SOP Manual. Participants must successfully complete practical and written examinations.
- 39 people took 2007 OLTC (total includes 22 new LBTBP lifeguards, 1 veteran LBTBP lifeguard, 9 prior LBTBP LITs, 1 LBTPD Officer and 1 Office/HQ Personnel) (5 were not employed by LBTBP).
American Red Cross Certifications
- All LBTBP lifeguards (217) are certified in CPR/AED-FPR and all are certified in First Aid, ER or a higher certification.
- 2 LBTBP lifeguards are First Aid certified.
- 217 LBTBP lifeguards are ER certified.
- 180 LBTBP lifeguards (18+yrs.) are certified in AEO.
- All LBTBP lifeguards are certified in ARC- Bloodborne Pathogens and certified in ARC-Preventing Disease Transmission.
ARC Instructors & Personnel Certified
- 27 of 50 ER instructors certified 254 people (223 are LBTBP personnel).
- 35 of 50 AEO/FPR instructors certified 205 people (182 are LBTBP personnel).
- 32 of 50 CPR/AED-FPR instructors certified 265 people (223 are LBTBP personnel).
- 8 of 50 CPR FPR Instructors certified 82 people in CPR FPR (82 LITs, 13 Beach Badge Checkers, and 12 were both LITs/Beach Badge Checkers).

- 2 LBTBP lifeguards are certified Paramedics and 4 LBTBP lifeguards are certified EMT-Basic (includes Defibrillation and AEO).
- 11 LBTBP lifeguards are certified in Class I Surface Ice Rescue training (4 were certified in 2007).
- 43 LBTBP lifeguards (2 LITs) were New Jersey State Police-Boating Safety Course certified (17 lifeguards are IRB personnel in 2007).
- All LBTBP lifeguards annually pass a 200yard swim test in 3 minutes or less before season.
- All LBTBP lifeguards are annually required to complete a 1000-meter ocean swim.

The LBTBP LIT Program is designed to teach young men and women, ages 11 through 15, all aspects of ocean lifeguarding.
- 124 former LITs are working as lifeguards for LBTBP (37 women, 87 men) (24 first year lifeguards and 100 veteran lifeguards).
- 138 LITs (ages 13 through 15) in two four week sessions; Monday through Friday. First session: 37 women, 38 men. Second session: 32 women, 31 men .
- Of those that participated in both sessions (49), 24 LITs are women, 25 LITs are men.
- 58 B-LITs (ages 11 and 12) participated in two four week sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. First session: 17 women, 10 men. Second session: 17 women, 14 men.
- Of those that participated in both sessions (22), 13 B-LITs were women, 9 B-LITs were men.
- 82 LITs are certified in ARC-CPR/FPR, ARC-Bloodborne Pathogens and ARC-PDT.
- 28 LITs are certified in Emergency Response.
- Each LIT passed a 150yard swim test in 3 minutes or less.
- As part of the LBTBP Lifeguard In Training Program, each LIT participates in the LBTBP Ocean Lifeguard Training Course.
