Working as a lifeguard for LBTBP does not guarantee a lifeguard position in following years. Each year, all returning lifeguards must pass the lifeguard swim test and demonstrate current American Red Cross certification as an emergency responder or in first aid and CPR. Recertification courses are offered for returning guards each year.
At the end of each season, every guard is evaluated by one of his or her officers, and a written copy of the evaluation is placed in the guard’s permanent file. A positive evaluation is required for a guard to be re-hired.
If a guard works for LBTBP one summer and then takes one or more summers off, he or she may be required to go through OLTC as a refresher.
Even if a returning guard meets these requirements, there is no guarantee that he or she will be given a position.
