Established in 1988, the Lifeguard In Training (LIT) Program offers young men and women the opportunity to learn about ocean lifeguarding from professional lifeguards. Many LITs become actual ocean lifeguards for Long Beach Township once they successfully complete the program.

The Lifeguard In Training Program is designed to teach young men and women in all aspects of ocean lifeguarding. In fact, all LITs are issued their own equipment, uniform, whistle and rescue cans. They also learn how to make swimming rescues, paddleboard rescues and get instructed in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

The Lifeguard In Training Program also concentrates on improving physical, mental, and social skills while developing maturity. These skills and goals are met through practical and objective application as guided by the instructors.

Program Content
The Lifeguard In Training Program will include ocean and beach safety, lifesaving techniques and procedures, first aid and CPR, development of swimming skills, and competition events with other junior lifeguard programs.
