LBTBP has established a number of programs relating to the beaches. These programs help to distinguish LBTBP from other beach patrols. LBTBP offers a variety of scuba certification classes for its guards. Guards completing one or more classes become members of the LBTBP Scuba Search and Rescue Team, which is sometimes called upon to search for submerged victims.The team also performs other scuba-related tasks for LBTBP, such as setting up race courses and practice drills.  Applications for the program are accepted at the beginning of each summer. Preference is given to veterans, people with previous scuba experience, people who have reputations as good workers, and people who are likely to return to the beach patrol for a number of years. Having a valid NJ Boater's Safety Certification is a plus, but not required. |
